My name is Charlie Nolan, and I’m a 2024 graduate from Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo, where I was part of the first cohort to receive RIAI and RIBA-accredited architectural education at the campus. Growing up in Galway amidst such natural beauty has profoundly shaped my architectural approach—integrating landscapes and using natural materials are central to my design philosophy.

After graduating, I worked with Deady Gahan Architects on a variety of housing projects. This experience gave me practical insight into the architectural process and a deeper understanding of the current housing needs in Ireland. It helped me appreciate the importance of designing efficient, sustainable homes that respond meaningfully to both planning requirements and community needs.

I am currently working with Arup, contributing to international projects within a multidisciplinary team. This role has expanded my perspective on large-scale, collaborative design and strengthened my ability to deliver solutions across diverse project types and locations.

I am proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Twinmotion, Photoshop, and SketchUp, which I use to develop and communicate ideas through both digital and physical model-making. This hands-on approach allows me to refine concepts and explore their relationship with the surrounding environment.

At the heart of my designs is a commitment to sustainability. I strive to minimise environmental impact through the use of natural materials and thoughtful integration with the landscape, creating architecture that is both respectful of its context and supportive of ecological balance.
